Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the issues of healthcare, higher education, pathways to jobs/workforce and civic engagement. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online through a network of over 100 partner organizations. Our regional offices (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas) have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded funding for community colleges, and ensured undocumented students can access in-state tuition.
Young Invincibles is looking for an Engagement Fellow to join our Illinois team in September. This is a 15 week fellowship with the possibility for extension and will be based in Chicago, Illinois starting in September 2020. The Engagement Fellow will play an integral role in the Illinois office’s young adult engagement work. This position pays $15/hour for up to 15 hours/week.
The Midwest Engagement Fellow will be responsible for partnering with the Engagement Manager to develop and implement consumer education and engagement work in Illinois as well as assist in tasks such as curriculum development and recruitment for the Young Advocates Program. The Engagement Fellow will build organizational partnerships; manage and facilitate public policy training and events; and drive young adult turnout and participation across our issues areas in Illinois.
The Engagement Fellow will also be responsible for building and sustaining a strong network of young adults ages 18 to 34 who lead local advocacy campaigns for issues that impact them, particularly around health care, higher education, and workforce development. Activities will include identifying young adults to share their stories with policymakers and the press, and
activating young people around breaking news. Outreach efforts will focus on young adults from underrepresented communities, including community college students, young parents, people of color, LGBT young adults, and low-income young adults. This is a great opportunity for someone to hone their consumer engagement, base building, and policy advocacy skills.
