About Young Invincibles:

Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the issues of health care, higher education, pathways to jobs/workforce and civic engagement. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online through a network of over 100 partner organizations. Our regional offices (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas) have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded health care coverage for young people including those who are undocumented, and allowed more young adults to access retirement savings plans.

Position Description:  

Young Invincibles (YI) Southern office seeks an Engagement Manager to implement Young Invincibles’ consumer education and young adult organizing work in Texas. The Engagement Manager will build organizational partnerships and manage coalition relationships. They will facilitate trainings and events, as well as drive young adult turnout and participation across our issues areas in Texas. Working alongside the Southern Regional Director, the Engagement Manager will support the paid leadership development program of Young Invincibles’ Texas office, which includes training and developing regionally based teams of young adult leaders.  This position will work collaboratively with various Young Invincible teams and external allies to advance integrated issue advocacy campaigns.

 

 The role offers an excellent opportunity to engage with and develop passionate young adult leaders on the major economic issues facing young people. A deep personal commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to a person’s success of this role, and candidates should be able to articulate how that understanding would shape his/her/their approach to this work. This position is based in Austin but will require travel throughout the state of Texas, particularly Houston, San Antonio, and East Texas.

 

This position reports to the Southern Regional Director.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of young adult leaders to engage in YI’s policy advocacy campaigns including health care enrollment and education, higher education access, and employment.
  • Sustain and expand partnerships with the YI Network, state coalitions and allies, and elected officials to advance priorities and participation.
  • Develop and implement consumer information projects designed to serve students and young adults  
  • Recruit, train, support, and hold accountable young adult leaders.
  • Collaborate with local coalitions, external partners, and young adult leaders to implement effective organizing campaigns.
  • Maintain daily reporting structures to track organizing efforts throughout the region to ensure YI is meeting grant deliverables
  • Work with the YI policy team to ensure YI research reflects the priorities of young people and translate complex policy ideas and educational issues into outreach materials.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of organizational leadership and management experience.
  • Ability to build effective and strategic partnerships with a wide range of partners (public sector, private sector, plural sector, etc.).
  • Experience with political advocacy campaign strategy and implementation.
  • Proven ability to develop organizers and leaders.
  • Outreach/Organizing experience within communities of color.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced start-up atmosphere.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills & excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.
  • Spanish language skills are preferred but not required
  • Training and curriculum development experience preferred but not required
