About Young Invincibles:

Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the issues of healthcare, higher education, pathways to jobs/workforce and civic engagement. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online through a network of over 100 partner organizations. Our regional offices (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas) have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded funding for community colleges, and ensured undocumented students can access in-state tuition.

Position Description

The Senior Manager- Health Policy will develop and advance YI’s health care policy agenda. This position will be responsible for policy development, government affairs strategy, and authoring issue briefs, reports, and fact sheets with an eye toward moving health care policies forward at the federal level and aligning and supporting YI’s state-level advocacy efforts. He/she/they will also build critical relationships with stakeholders for YI to advance policy values and priorities pertaining to young adults in the area of health care.  

The ideal candidate has a strong background in health care policy and legislative advocacy, as well as demonstrated experience building productive relationships with key stakeholders. They will also have excellent analytical skills with an ability to think critically and write effectively. An understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to the success of this role, and candidates should be prepared to articulate how that understanding would shape his/her/their approach to this work. The position is a fantastic opportunity to serve as the resident health care policy expert for an influential public policy organization.

Position reports to the Director of Public Policy

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Help develop the organization’s policy agenda and a supporting advocacy strategy to move those policies forward

  • Co-manage day-to-day government affairs for the policy department. Build and maintain relationships with Congressional staff, administrative staff, and other policymakers and represent YI in meetings and communications on the HiIl, to advance our policy agenda.

  • Drive efforts to coordinate health care policy and advocacy efforts across regions. Work with YI Regional Directors to ensure alignment on organizational health care policy goals and manage a range of related health policy requests.

  • Assist with data analysis and research projects and author policy reports, issue briefs, and fact sheets that analyze health care policy issues affecting young adults.

  • Represent the organization externally at formal events, including coalition strategy meetings, to foster our external relationships and collaborate strategically with partners

  • Analyze and track health care legislation to provide recommendations on YI’s strategy around public positions, sign-on letters, bill sponsorship, comments, and feedback on draft legislation

  • Serve as an on-record spokesperson for YI on health care policy and political strategy at events, in official statements, and in the media

  • Execute on and track federal health care policy grant deliverables as necessary

  • Supervise policy interns and seasonal staff, with the potential to manage additional staff members in the future


  • Must have at least 4 years of relevant experience in federal health care policy and politics and be generally familiar with state health care policy issues

  • Excellent research and writing ability, including an existing portfolio of policy materials

  • Experience successfully leading issue advocacy campaigns preferred

  • Experience managing projects with multiple teams and competing priorities

  • Experience building and managing relationships with external partners

  • Capitol Hill experience, particularly committee experience, preferred. Should have existing relationships with health policy stakeholders, including Hill staff.
